Although the healing process can differ between patients, still there are some common features, especially in the first days after the operation:

  1. After a day of the procedure: Patients usually experience swelling and tenderness immediately after the operation that can extend to the next day. Accordingly, the patients can feel that their lips are not even, and the result of the procedure can be presumed at this level. But no need to worry, the swelling and inflammation are temporary.

  2. Two days after the symptoms of the first day will still appear, thus the patient can feel their lips swollen and bruised. The lips will look larger than expected.

  3. Third day and beyond swelling decreases gradually in this period, and the filler settles more in the lips giving a look that resembles the final results. By days the swelling will disappear, usually, it takes a week for most of the patients to notice their healed filled lips.

What not to do after lip fillers?

  • Avoid blood thinners: Blood thinners such as some drugs and supplements can intervene in the healing process. Thus, the patient needs to check with the doctor when to continue taking blood thinners after the procedure.

  • Do not do strenuous exercise: particularly in the first 48 hours of the operation.

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight and high temperature in the first days after the procedure.

  • Do not wear makeup on the lips at least for the first 24 hours.

  • Avoid alcohol: Alcohol acts like blood thinners, thus it can increase the risk of swelling and bruising. Alcohol should be avoided in the first 48 hours of lip augmentation.

  • Do not fly: flying should not be done in the first week of the lip fillers.
